Author Guidelines

The International Journal of Scottish Theatre and Screen (IJOSTS) welcomes contributions from scholars and practitioners with an interest in research and practice of Scottish theatre and screen.

If you are thinking of submitting your work to us, please read the submission preparation checklist.  General enquiries can be addressed to Dr Ksenija Horvat, Editor (khorvat@qmu.ac.uk) or Professor Ian Brown, Editor (I.Brown@kingston.ac.uk).

All papers are to be submitted to Dr Ksenija Horvat (khorvat@qmu.ac.uk) by end of September (December issue) and end of February (June issue).

Forum articles can be submitted at any time.

Work should not exceed 7000 words for academic papers, and 5000 words for forum articles or interviews. References are not included in the word count and all submissions must be fully referenced according to the IJOSTSReferencing Guidelines.

Word count limits do not apply to submitted play texts.

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  1. The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  2. The submission file is in Microsoft Word document file format.
  3. Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  4. The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  5. The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
  6. If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.
  7. Attached audio and video files should be in MP3 or AV1 format.
