Author Biographies

  • Mitsi Akoyunoglou-Christou

    Mitsi Akoyunoglou-Christou is a registered music therapist (USA), holds a Bachelor’s (1987) and a Master’s (1990) degree in music therapy from Michigan State University, USA as well as a PhD in Musical Sciences, Music Therapy (2014) from Ionian University, Greece. She received her piano diploma (Atheneaum Conservatory) with pianist N. Semitekolo. She works as a piano instructor and a music therapist at the Aegeas Conservatory in Chios. Her research interests are on ethno-music-therapy, children with emotional challenges and grief. She is a member of the Hellenic Association of Certified Professional Music Therapists (ESPEM), World Federation of Music Therapy (WFMT) and a member of the editorial board of Approaches.

  • Potheini Vaiouli

    Potheini Vaiouli holds a Master’s degree in music therapy from New York University (2009) and a PhD in special education (2014) from Indiana University, Bloomington, USA. She is a board-certified music therapist, member of the American Music Therapy Association (AMTA), Council for Exceptional Children (CEC), and Division of Early Childhood (DEC), and is a reviewer for early childhood special education (ECSE) and autism related journals and conferences. Her work focuses on ECSE and music therapy with a research interest in family-centred and parent and/or teacher-mediated interventions for young children with autism and other developmental disabilities. Potheini received the AMTA Graduate Research Award for her research on toddlers with autism (2013).
