    Michael B. Bakan is Professor of Ethnomusicology in the College of Music at Florida State University, USA. He is the author of Speaking for Ourselves: Conversations on Life, Music, and Autism; World Music: Traditions and Transformations; and Music of Death and New Creation: Experiences in the World of Balinese Gamelan Beleganjur. Bakan serves on the Board of Directors of the Society for Ethnomusicology and as series editor for the Routledge Focus on World Music Series. He has performed as a percussionist with leading symphony orchestras, jazz artists, and Balinese gamelan ensembles, as well as with the legendary funk band Parliament.
